Chulamama – roughly translated ‘cool mom’– is a full service maternity and baby store, and Greater Boston’s premier source for designer denim, hard-to-find stroller brands, and the most au courant baby gear. A modern baby registry walks parents-to-be through the process of selecting everything from state-of-the-art strollers to organic bedding to ergonomic baby carriers to fun BPH-free glass bottles.
Co-owners Noelle Moreno (a former model) and Heather Roman (a RISD-trained designer) have expertly curated a collection of high-quality, aesthetically appealing products for baby, mom and home. Being parents themselves (each is the mother of two toddlers), Roman and Moreno thoroughly research and test all the products they sell. “We stay on top of all the ‘mom’ blogs and advance industry news” says Roman, “and our customers give us great information and feedback.” Moreno, who does most of the store’s buying, adds, “We work hard to source small or off-beat brands that make great products but may lack the marketing muscle to reach big retailers.”
Chulamama’s own label recently launched a line of “City Tees.” The owners’ beloved Boston came first, and was soon followed by hand-drawn odes to other hometowns: Brooklyn, NYC, San Francisco, LA. (Chicago, DC and others are in the pipeline.) The whimsical images are locally screenprinted onto 100% cotton, made-in-the-U.S.A. tees. Other Chulamama original designs include lushly patterned dresses, and apparel accented with simple graphics.
With a full e-commerce site, and knowledgeable staff, ordering by web or by phone is easy. Personal shopping and consulting are available at no charge.
